Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Thurston County Criminal History does not keep or log those query terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
If you email us, the message may be retained long enough to respond and manage the exchange. We do not disclose it outside our organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal server and analytics operations can collect technical details when a page loads:
- Your device's Internet Protocol address
- Browser name, type, and version
- Operating system and device category
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- The referring website, when available
- Date and time information for the visit
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help measure traffic, popular pages, and where visits end. A browser can block cookies, though some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Operate the website and maintain reasonable loading performance
- Send a requested search to the correct partner service
- Assess which resources visitors use
- Find and repair technical problems
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Thurston County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to records held by the Thurston County Sheriff, local courts, the Nebraska State Patrol Criminal Identification Division, the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, and the Nebraska Sex Offender Registry. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports about other people. Nebraska's Public Records Statutes, Neb. Rev. Stat. §§84-712 through 84-712.09, govern public access to government records, while the Security, Privacy, and Dissemination of Criminal History Information Act, §§29-3501 through 29-3528, controls dissemination of covered criminal history. Those laws do not turn this private site into a government custodian.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is handled under that provider's policy, not this policy. Each partner controls its own retention, processing, disclosure, prices, and results. Review those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Nebraska agencies, Thurston County offices, court portals, registry resources, legal services, or outside search providers. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy rules apply. Read them before sharing personal information.
Advertising partners may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Thurston County Criminal History does not control that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal data. Depending on the feature used, limited information may be received by:
- A search partner that processes a query
- Analytics providers measuring site performance and traffic
- Advertising networks serving content on a page
- A government or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Standard administrative and technical safeguards are used for data under our control. No internet-connected service can promise perfect security, so we cannot guarantee that a breach or unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If such data is identified, it will be removed.
Your Data Rights
Rights vary by residence and by which law applies. Nebraska's criminal-history dissemination law, Neb. Rev. Stat. §29-3523, addresses public release and removal of specified government-held arrest history, while the Nebraska Public Records Statutes govern requests to public custodians. For personal data that this private site actually holds, you may:
- Ask what personal information is kept about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Ask that eligible personal data be erased
- Object to certain processing when applicable law supplies that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A revised version will appear here with a new effective date.
